Because nylon strings become the standard after 1950 and more energy was available on the bridge. Jose Ramirez III checked out the limit in term of scale and body size again.
The result was a slightly bigger body. To balance treble and bass, he added a cross-or treble brace and together with the double sides,variations of these are still in use for many Spanish guitars.
The legacy he left to the world of classical guitars was to introduce the wood of the Thuya plicata (Western red Cedar) for the guitar top.
